Culinary Delights from the Homeland

Today, Muslims around the world celebrate Mawled Al Nabi ( Literally : Birth of the Prophet).

One of the traditions that we keep alive in Tunisia part of the celebrations is Assidat Zgougou, a Tunisian desset often made to celebrate Mawled.

It’s mainly made out of the grains of Aleppo pine grounded and soaked in water.  Wheat  flour and sugar are then added. Some recipes include condensed milk as well.

Then the mixture is cooked until it thickens, then we add some creme anglaise on top and decorate with all sorts of nuts.
